The EL MOTO Tungsten Mine
The El Moto mine, located in Ciudad Real, Spain, is one of the world’s largest high-grade tungsten deposits.
This unique high-grade tungsten and gold mine was granted its mining concession in 2015 and began construction of the underground operation in 2026, with first production expected in Q1 2029.
The deposit has an NI 43-101 compliant certified resource of 91 Mt grading 0.42% WO₃ and is located close to the surface, allowing for a low C1 cost. El Moto not only hosts a mineral that is critical to the energy, technology and defence sectors, but once operational, it aims to have the capacity to supply up to 25% of Europe’s tungsten demand, establishing itself as a strategic pillar for Europe’s future security and prosperity.
On 25 March 2025, the European Commission designated El Moto as one of 47 strategic projects aimed at securing the supply of critical raw materials essential to the continent’s industry and technology.
WHERE WE ARE
Located in the province of Ciudad Real, in central Spain, the El Moto mine is one of Europe’s most important tungsten deposits.
Members of the Company’s group and the García San Miguel family have actively promoted the development of El Moto since 2012, although the García San Miguel family’s presence and activity in the region date back to 1967. In the area, the García San Miguel family has owned, built, operated and subsequently successfully restored several mines, including the San Antonio coal mine and the La Extranjera mine. In addition, the Company’s management team has been involved in every stage of the mining project life cycle in Spain and South America.
El Moto currently enjoys strong support at both local and national level. Once operational, it will create 428 direct jobs and additional indirect employment, helping to boost employment in the region and combat rural depopulation.
With production scheduled to begin in Q1 2029, El Moto will progressively increase its capacity with the aim of producing the equivalent of 25% of Europe’s current tungsten demand.
WHAT IS TUNGSTEN
Tungsten is a critical metal recognised for having the highest melting point found in nature and a density comparable to that of gold. Included in the European Union’s list of Critical and Strategic Raw Materials, this metal is essential to numerous industries, ranging from the manufacture of tools and electronic components to military and aerospace applications.
Global demand for tungsten continues to grow, driven by its importance in renewable energy, the digital transition and defence applications.
